The LECORE family - is this where we came from ?

Fifth Generation

25. Jacob LECORE [scrapbook] (James LECOUR , Pierre (became Peter ?) , Jean , "L'Ancêtre" ) was born about 1771. He died on 15 Mar 1848 in Halifax Street, Mile End New Town.

In the 1841 Census, to the question "Where born" Jacob said Yes to "Born in same County". If he was telling the truth, this means he was born in Mile End New Town, and not of foreign origin (see scan of Census return).

**Jacob's Occupations** :
1792 - 1795 : Hot Presser (i.e. in the clothing business)
1804 - 1810 : Labourer
1813 - ? : Brush Maker (when William was married in 1843, his father's occupation was given as Brush maker)
**Notes**:
Most of the children were christened soon after birth, however the following facts seem rather strange:
John Lecour christened on 31/8/1910, was born of Sarah (deceased) on 2/10/1800. He was christened aged almost 10 !
This means he was born only 1 year after the 1st John... who perhaps died in his first year ?
Sarah is thus assumed to have died sometime between 1804 and 1810.

Jacob married (1) Sarah BARFORD on 9 Oct 1791 in Saint Dunstan, Stepney, London, England. Sarah died > 22 Apr 1804 < 31 Aug 1810 in Spitalfields.

They had the following children:

28 F i Sarah LE CORE [scrapbook] was born on 7 Aug 1792 and was christened on 30 Sep 1792 in Spitalfields Christ Church, Stepney, London, England.
29 F ii Ann LECOUR [scrapbook] was born on 3 Dec 1793 and was christened on 25 Dec 1793 in Spitalfields Christ Church, Stepney, London, England.
30 F iii Jane LECOUR [scrapbook] was born on 7 Mar 1795 and was christened on 29 Mar 1795 in Spitalfields Christ Church, Stepney, London, England.
31 F iv Mary LECORE [scrapbook] was born on 8 Aug 1797 and was christened on 3 Sep 1797 in Saint Leonards, Shoreditch, London, England.
+ 32 M v John LECOUR was born on 2 Oct 1799 and died on 25 Dec 1863.
33 F vi Elizabeth LECORE [scrapbook] was born on 25 Mar 1804 and was christened on 22 Apr 1804 in Spitalfields Christ Church, Stepney, London, England.

Jacob also married (2) Mary GOBART on 31 Jan 1813 in Spitalfields Christ Church, Stepney, London, England. Mary died in Mar 1859 in Whitechapel.

They had the following children:

34 F vii Catherine LECOUR [scrapbook] was christened on 15 Dec 1813.
Catherine married William WATSON on 30 Sep 1833 in Spitalfields Christ Church.
+ 35 M viii Daniel William LECORE was christened on 19 Mar 1815 and died in Jun 1884.
+ 36 M ix William LECORE was born on 10 Feb 1817 and died on 6 Oct 1883.
+ 37 M x Joseph LECORE was born on 8 Mar 1819 and died in Dec 1878.
38 M xi George LECORE [scrapbook] was born on 26 Feb 1822 in Shoreditch and was christened on 18 Mar 1822 in Saint Leonards, Shoreditch, London, England. He died in Sep 1867 in Bethnal Green, Middlesex.
39 F xii Eliza LECORE [scrapbook] was born on 6 Mar 1826 in Shoreditch and was christened on 27 Mar 1826 in Saint Leonards, Shoreditch, London, England.

27. Martha Susanna LECOUR (James LECOUR , Pierre (became Peter ?) , Jean , "L'Ancêtre" ) was born on 1 Oct 1773 in Spitalfields, Stepney, London, England and was christened on 17 Oct 1773 in Spitalfields Christchurch, Stepney, London.

Baptism Entry from Spitalfields Christ Church indicates:
1773 Oct 17, Martha Susanna Lecour of James - Baker - Pelham Street by Rebecca, 16 days old

She had the following children:

40 M i James LE CORE was christened on 25 May 1792 in Spitalfields Christchurch, Stepney, London.

James LE CORE was christened in Spitalfields Christchurch. No Father, mother Ann Le Core.
According to HC Lecore's research the parents were specified as "of Anne, A workhouse foundling", no father. Could Anne be in fact Martha Susannah Lecour?
Another possibility could be that James was the son of Susannah Fleming & James LeCour, but then why would the child have been born in the workhouse, as James was still alive ? Susannah LeCour née Fleming died on 2nd Jan 1794 so she could potentially have been the mother too...
No proof of anything at this time
